| Portable Bottom
Drain is designed for use in most water garden and fish ponds.
Excavation of the pond bottom or draining pond water is not necessary
for installation. When correctly installed, the drain sits level on the
pond bottom.
Parts included:
Drain Dome w/plug
Pipe Connector Assembly (consists of 2" I.D. Flex Hose, 2" ABS
Elbow, 2" ABS Coupling).
Tools and materials needed for
installation:
2" ABS or PVC Pipe
-Amount determined by pond size & configuration. Using less than
2" I.D. will restrict flow from drain However, smaller diameter
pipe can be used on pump end. 2" I.D. swimming pool flex hose may
be used instead of rigid pipe if properly anchored to prevent floating.
if using flex hose, a special cement must be used to connect ABS pipe.
2" ABS or PVC Elbows
-Type and number determined by pond configuration.
PVC Saw
All-Purpose Cement
Sand or Gravel for Filling Dome
INSTALLATION:
1. Location of drain sits - Locate the
lowest unobstructed point in the pond. This will determine drain
placement and the amount of pipe needed.
2. Filling & weighting Dome Cover -
Fill the Drain Dome nearly full with sand or gravel. then glue plug
using all-purpose cement. Drain dome must be weighted for drain
stability.
3. Gluing Pipe Connector Assembly to Dome
Outlet - Glue the 90 degree connector elbow onto the dome outlet with
all purpose cement.
4. Laying the Pond Bottom
Pipe - Estimate distance from the pond side wall to the drain site
and cut a corresponding length of 2" pipe. Connect pipe
to connector coupling, but but do not cement! Lay the bottom horizontal
pipe as level as possible to allow the drain to lie flat on the pond
bottom. The flex hose connector is designed to help keep the drain in
level contact with the pond bottom.
5. Installing Pipe to the Top Edge of the
Pond - You must determine pond size and configuration to complete this
step. Do not glue pipe to elbows and couplings until final measurements
and connections are made. If the pond walls are straight or slightly
sloped. connect a 90 degree elbow and vertical pipe up the pond side
walls. If the pond is irregular, you may have to enter pond to fit pipe
to side wall using a 45 degree elbow. After making sure of fitting
connections. remove pipe and fittings from pond and glue with
all-purpose cement. Always cement pipe connections out of water.
6. Installing Pipe From Top Edge of Pond
to Pump - Using a 90 degree elbow and suitable lengths of pipe, make the
connection to the pump. Always test fit before apply cement. Remember to
keep the pond bottom pipe as level as possible to keep the drain in full
contact with the pond bottom. For easy priming and less wear on the pump
motor, place the pump at or below water level. Water should output from
the pump to a filter, then re-circulate back to the pond.
